Checked another item off our Summer Bucket List today: a hike on Mt. Rainier! There are several incredible trails on Mt. Rainier, and we needed some help narrowing down what to do, so I downloaded an app called The Outbound which helps you find local hiking spots. I love the app for the sheer fact that you can filter your searches for pet-friendly hikes, child-friendly hikes, good photography spots, etc. I was able to read other hikers reviews and tips and those came in super handy. (Because who knew you had to PAY for some of these hikes?!)
We chose a hike to Panorama Point. It said it was good for beginner to intermediate hikers and had spectacular views. Good enough for me.
The drive up was beautiful, thanks mostly in part to my sis-in-law and her husband. Not only did they let us borrow their Park Pass, but they let us take their Jeep. I’ve never really thought much of Jeeps before, but now that I’ve driven in one during the summer with the top down and the music blaring…I’m sold. It was awesome. I gotta get me one of those.
As far as packing goes, we didn’t take much. Just stopped at Subway on our way up and took our sandwiches. And we didn’t have fancy hiking boots or backpacks, although most everyone else did, and we made it to the top just fine. Ehhh…maybe I should say somewhat fine. Trenton took a nasty spill on the way back down the mountain; he was running and his body just got ahead of his legs. He’s okay, but he’s definitely going to feel that this week.
Oh, and Things I Wish I Would’ve Done? Put sunscreen on Huz’s face. I thought about it. I even brought sunscreen. But I didn’t. And now his poor face is paying the price.
We took way too many pictures, but it’s all proof that all the reviews are correct: the views really ARE spectacular. Beyond stunning. We could see Mt. St. Helen’s, Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams and Pinnacle Point. Yeah, that’s like 4 different mountains.
And Washington wins again. 🙂
