I know you know by now that I am a nail polish fanatic. I LOOOOOOOOVE nail polish. Partly because of the pretty color on my nails, partly because of the smell of all the chemicals. #LetsBeHonest
My favorite, favorite brand is Essie. I own a ton. A ton. But I justify this by never getting manicures. Not since 1998 when I was getting acrylic nail art on my pinky fingers. (Shout out to the diamonds on the pinky in the shape of a daisy. You know you did it too.)
But, if I’m honest, I do miss the shine that only the Gel Manicures can give. If I paint my own nails, the shine probably lasts about 3 days. And that’s using a top coat. Not great. Especially when the Gel Manicures leave your nails shiny for weeks. Alright, that may be an exaggeration, but it’s a whole lot longer than 3 days.
So when one of my favorite beauty YouTubers said that this Sally Hansen 3D Gel Shine was amazeballs (her words, not mine), I was like, “Babe, I gotta go to Target for tampons!” And headed out the door to buy this nail polish. (They never question the tampons. Nail polish, they’ll question every time.)
When I got home from buying Tampons, I immediately painted my thumb. I already had nail polish on, so I just swiped a coat over my white polish and continued about my day.
Two hours later, I remembered my freshly painted thumb and decided to check out this 3D Gel Shine a little closer. And I am soooooooooo disappointed to tell you that I don’t like it. Sure, my thumb was shinier than my other nails. BUT. I could press my finger into the polish on my thumb and see my fingerprint. Still not dry 2 hours later?
This is what my thumb looks like now:
I wiped it all off. Literally wiped all of my nail polish off with my hand.
I went online to see if maybe I didn’t read ALL the instructions, but no, I did it right. And to confirm my feelings, the product has been receiving horrible reviews, mainly for the same thing I was experiencing.
So, regardless if it’s super shiny and gives you that freshly polished look, I wouldn’t buy this product again. Ain’t nobody got time to wait 2+ hours for their nails to dry. I actually took it right back to Target that same day. And when the cashier asked why I was returning it, I just showed him my mangled thumb. He probably wouldn’t have even asked me for my receipt, my thumb looked so awful. So I’m still on the quest for a good shiny top coat and if you have any suggestions, feel free to send ’em my way!
