Un-Done Hair

February 4, 2015 by Jessica Leave a Comment

Have you all seen this commercial on tv?

If you’re anything like me, you rolled your eyes at the tv and thought to yourself there’s NO WAY that is all from a shampoo and a sea salt spray. What a crock of s*@!

And then you ran straight over to Target to buy it.

Yes, I in fact do have the word SUCKER pasted to my forehead.

So this morning I tried out and was pleasantly surprised. But there is a disclaimer: I still used a curling iron. (I can’t help it. Me walking out the door without using a hot tool would be like walking out the door without putting on a bra.)

But even with the aid of a curling wand (I just wrapped strands of hair around the hot iron), the sea foam and sea salt spray gave my hair a looser, more un-done look. Like, curling your hair and sleeping in it. I think the key is putting some volume at the crown of your head. If you attempt this look without the volume…I think you’re gonna come away more homeless, greasy, overslept than beach-y, boho, free spirit.

Hair

I used the shampoo, conditioner, sea foam, sea spray and my curling iron. Divide your hair into 3 sections (base, middle and crown of head), start at the base section and wrap 2 inch strands around your curling iron barrel. Then move up to the middle section and finally end with the crown. I, personally, don’t curl all the way up to the top of my head…it gets a little too Shirley Temple for me. I stop curling at about my cheekbones.

I was happy with the results and I’d buy these products again. I’ll probably also need to invest in some kind of deep conditioning treatment…I think sea salt can be pretty harsh on your hair.

Sidenote: if you get done and it’s REALLY curly…don’t freak out. It will relax. At least mine did…I suppose it helps that I live in Washington and it’s foggy and damp outside. 🙂
